MISGIVINGS ABOUT GOD’S ANGER

The Scriptures must be read with great care. The actions of God are not always easy to comprehend and interpret. Thus there are some who have misgivings about the anger of God.

“He will not always strive with us,
Nor will He keep His anger forever.
He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
Nor punished us according to our iniquities.”
Psalm 103:9-10

1. How should we understand God’s anger?

David offers wonderful insight as to how we may understand God and His righteous anger.

a) God, of course, has a right to be angry.
i) When His laws are violated.
ii) When the wicked victimizes and oppresses the weak.
iii) His anger is at times to be adjudged “righteous” for it is consistent with His Being.
b) Important things to note:-
i) He will not always strive with sinful man.
ii) Nor will He retain His anger forever.
iii) He has not dealt with sinners according to their sins.
iv) Nor has He punished according to the full weight of our iniquities.

2. God’s delight to bless His children

a) The laws of Moses were taught to the children of Israel.
b) God wanted His children to know that He delighted in blessing them.

3. God’s word of warning to the wicked

a) If they intentionally flouted God’s laws;
b) If they remained unrepentant;
c) God reserves the prerogative to bring about Divine punishment!
