Day 100 – Psalm 103

“Who redeems your life from destruction…” Psalm 103:4a

DANGEROUS MOMENTS IN LIFE

David could recall many moments in his life when God rescued him from danger. Wisely he traced the hand of God in those moments.

“Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies.”
Psalm 103:4

1. “Who redeems your life from destruction”

a) God’s redemption was acknowledged gratefully.
b) Two periods in David’s life may be cited when he was redeemed from destruction:-
i) In the days when King Saul sought to kill him (1 Samuel 19-26).
ii) In the days when Absalom usurped David’s throne (2 Samuel 16-17).
c) Divine redemption from destruction must not be taken for granted.

2. “Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies”

a) The crowning of David as king.
i) He received an anointing from the prophet Samuel (1 Samuel 16:12-13).
ii) He was anointed king by Judah (2 Samuel 2:4, 11).
iii) He was finally anointed king over Israel by all the tribes (2 Samuel 5:3).
b) Another kind of crowning:-
i) Crowned with the lovingkindness of God.
ii) Crowned with the tender mercies of God.
c) Spiritual “benefits” acknowledged gratefully.
i) God’s crowning of David was certainly more significant.
ii) This kind of crowning is not limited to David as the king of Israel.
iii) God crowns all His children with this glorious benefit.
iv) It is good practice to bless God for His lovingkindness and His tender mercies.
