Day 80 – Psalm 101

“I will behave wisely in a perfect way…” Psalm 101:2a

SEEKING TO BE BLAMELESS

David desired with all his heart to walk in the ways of the Lord. He was not completely successful but his heart was right when he expressed his thoughts in the following text:-

“I will behave wisely in a perfect way.
Oh, when will You come to me?
I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.”
Psalm 101:2

1. “I will behave wisely in a perfect way”

a) The behavior of a king was governed by the Mosaic law.
b) The perfect way is prescribed in Deuteronomy 17:14-20.
i) The king must not be a foreigner (Deuteronomy 17:15).
ii) He must not multiply horses (Deuteronomy 17:16).
iii) He must not multiply wives (Deuteronomy 17:17a).
iv) He must not focus on accumulating wealth (Deuteronomy 17:17b).
v) He must devote time to reading God’s word (Deuteronomy 17:18-19).
vi) He must practise the fear of the Lord (Deuteronomy 17:19).
vii) He must seek to obey the Lord’s word (Deuteronomy 17:19).
viii) He must not allow his heart to be haughty and lifted up (Deuteronomy 17:20).
ix) He must not depart from the Word of the Lord (Deuteronomy 17:20).

2. “Oh, when will You come to me?”

a) David desired the closeness of the Lord.
b) He felt it badly when he sensed that the Lord hid Himself (in displeasure because of sin).

3. “I will walk within my house with a perfect heart”

a) David had both a private and a public life.
b) He determined that he would attempt to walk with a perfect (“blameless”) heart.
