“His eyes are secretly fixed upon the helpless…” Psalm 10:8c

IN SECRET

The psalmist went on to describe the cunning and craftiness of the wicked. The phrase “in secret” must be noted in the following text.

“He sits in the lurking places of the villages;
In the secret places he murders the innocent;
His eyes are secretly fixed on the helpless.
He lies in wait secretly, as a lion in his den;
He lies in wait to catch the poor;
He catches the poor when he draws him into his net.
So he crouches, he lies low,
That the helpless may fall by his strength.”

Psalm 10:8-10

BRINGING THE WICKED TO THE ATTENTION OF THE LORD

The psalmist has built up a very strong case against the wicked! He has done his homework well. He now brings all his observations to the Lord, the Just Judge (Psalms 7:8; 9:7-8)!

Wisely, the psalmist does not take the law into his own hands! He would not become “a vigilante!” Instead, he brings all his concerns to the Lord in prayer!
