"As many as are mature..."

Text: Philippians 3:15

THE MATURE BELIEVERS

In any given Church scenario, there would always be two main groups of people:-

1. The mature

2. The immature

The Philippian church was particularly close to the heart of Paul. Nevertheless he was fully aware that there would be some who could not be called “fully mature”.

“Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind;
and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal
even this to you.”

Philippians 3:15

A WORD TO THE MATURE

Paul first writes directly to the mature.

1. “Therefore let us, as many as are mature”

a) Nothing must be taken for granted.
b) There must be no presumption.

2. “Have this mind”

a) The construction of this text is similar to Philippians 2:5.
b) The word “mind” has been rendered a noun.
c) Paul was not speaking of having a mind of Christ (as a noun).
d) He was saying “Think as Christ would” (Philippians 2:5).

3. “And if in anything you think otherwise”

a) Paul expected opposition/ negative feedback.
b) There would always be people who would think “otherwise”.

4. “God will reveal even this to you”

a) Paul was very certain that he had taught correctly.
b) God had revealed many things already.
c) He believes that God will personally have a hand in helping the immature grow more significantly.

A WORD TO THE LESS MATURE

The following lessons may be highlighted. Two stand out significantly.

1. The focus must be on the Lord Himself.

2. Knowledge of God’s word must be accompanied by closeness to the Lord God instructing His people.
