The Life-Giving Ministry of Jesus
Text: John 5:25
THE LIFE-GIVING MINISTRY OF JESUS
How wonderful to understand that Jesus came to give life to all would hear Him! He was deeply committed to fulfil His ministry.
Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, When the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; And those who hear will live.
John 5:25
1. “Most assuredly”
a. Once again, Jesus prefaces an important truth He is about to proclaim with this immortal phrase
b. This is a vital truth that He is proclaiming
c. It is certainly worth hearing carefully
d. There is great power in the gospel Jesus preaches
2. “I say to you”
a. Many have not given due consideration to
i. Who Jesus is
ii. What He says
b. It is wise to pause
i. To listen to the words Jesus says
ii. To heed what He proclaims as the truth from God Himself
3. “The hour is coming and now is”
a. Jesus was referring to the present moment
b. He is speaking to all who would hear Him here and now
4. “When the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God”
a. The application here is a reference to the “spiritually dead”
b. By the grace and the power of God, the words of Jesus can cause the erstwhile spiritually dead to come alive
c. The spiritually alive can recognise that the words of Jesus are not that of an ordinary man, but the very Son of God Himself
5. “And those who hear will live”
a. The spiritually dead will experience the power of God working in their life
b. God will cause them to come alive at the words of Jesus understood and believed in
How we must hear well and respond to the voice of the Son of God! We will come alive!
