Nothing Hidden From Jesus

Text: John 16: 19 - 20

NOTHING HIDDEN FROM JESUS

Jesus kindly went to His Disciples and spoke to them. He knew that they were deeply puzzled.

“Now Jesus knew that they desired to ask Him, and He said to them, ‘Are you inquiring among yourselves about what I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; And again a little while, and you will see Me’? Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned to joy.”

John 16:19-20

1. “Now Jesus knew that they desired to ask Him”

a. Of course, Jesus knew that they desired to ask Him.
b. He went to them when they did not seek Him out.

2. “And He said to them, ‘Are you inquiring among yourselves about what I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’?”

a. Jesus did not offer to give them an answer immediately.
b. But He merely repeated what they were inquiring among themselves.

3. “Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament”

a. “Most assuredly”
Jesus sought to give them assurance.
b. “I say to you, that you will weep and lament”
i. The Disciples half knew the truth.
ii. They feared that the phrase “You will not see Me” would mean that Jesus would die.
iii. They would then no longer be able to see Him ever again.
iv. Death seemed so very final.
v. Weeping and lamenting would be what the Disciples would be pre-occupied with.

4. “But the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful”

a. “The world will rejoice”
Those who had rejected Jesus. They would be glad when Jesus was dead.
b. “You will be sorrowful”
The Disciples would be filled with sorrow.

5. “But your sorrow will be turned to joy”
The sorrow they may experience would not be last forever. It would give way to joy when Jesus is resurrected.

iii.
