Bearing Witness Of Our Faith In Jesus
Text: John 15: 26-27
BEARING WITNESS OF OUR FAITH IN JESUS
The Lord calls us to bear faithful witness for Him. This is a work that the Spirit of God would also be engaged in.
“But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.”
John 15:26-27
1. “When the Helper comes”
a. He is gently spoken of.
b. He is called once again:
i. The Helper
ii. The Spirit of truth
2. “Whom I shall send to you from the Father”
a. He will be sent by Jesus.
b. He will proceed from the Father.
c. There is such a beautiful harmony in the Trinity.
3. “He will testify of Me”
a. He will not speak of Himself.
b. He will simply testify or bear witness of Jesus.
4. “And you also will bear witness”
a. This was well-stated in Acts 1:8.
b. Bearing witness would be their way of sharing their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
5. “Because you have been with Me from the beginning”
a. The Apostles would be able to speak of Jesus as eye witnesses.
b. They would be able to speak with tremendous authority.
i. They will have the authority given by the Lord (Matthew 28:19-20).
ii. They would provide a wonderful sense of authenticity.
iii. They can count on the Spirit of God who will empower them.
iv. They would succeed in their future ministry.
There was no reason to fear the future even if Jesus would not be there with them in person physically.
