Knowledge and Love
Text: John 14: 20 - 21
KNOWLEDGE AND LOVE
The need to have a good and clear knowledge of God is of vital importance. Closely tied to knowledge is a deep love for the Lord.
“At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
John 14:20-21
1. “At that day you will know”
a. That day has reference to the Resurrection of Jesus.
b. The Holy Spirit will come upon the Disciples.
c. And they would then come to a good and clear knowledge of what Jesus had just taught.
2. A glorious union
a. Jesus in the Father.
b. Jesus in the Disciples.
c. The Disciples in Jesus.
d. The Holy Spirit will help them understand this wonderful and glorious union.
3. “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me”
a. Real love for Jesus evidenced
i. Knowing His commandments (The word “has” is a reference to knowing the Word Jesus taught.)
ii. Keeping His commandments
b. Love is never
i. Mere feelings.
ii. Verbal expressions.
4. Love from the Father
a. The believer who truly loves Jesus will in turn be loved by the Father.
b. This love from the Father is most precious.
5. Love from Jesus
a. The Lord Jesus will also love right back.
b. He will express His love by manifesting Himself to the individual who truly loves Him.
