The Last Passover Feast
Text: John 13: 1
THE LAST PASSOVER FEAST
Jesus had concluded His public ministry. The Passover Feast was at hand. This would be the last Passover with His disciples.
“Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.”
John 13:1
1. “Now before the feast of the Passover”
a. John noted the occasion.
b. This was the traditional and annual Passover feast.
2. “When Jesus knew that His hour had come”
a. The “hour” was an obvious reference to His death.
b. The word “knew” may be understood as:
i. Consciousness
ii. Full awareness of the implications of “the hour”.

a. He was not overcome by the consciousness of death.
b. He had been preparing for this “hour” consciously right from the beginning.
c. Two events would take place:
i. His departure from this world.
ii. His going home to His Father.
d. The thought of going to His Father and to Heaven:
i. There must be profound joy.
ii. There must be wonderful satisfaction that He had fully obeyed His Father in all things.
iii. The plan of salvation would be fulfilled.
4. “Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end”
a. This is an obvious reference to His disciples.
b. They had become “His own”.
c. He had loved them from the beginning with a wonderfully glorious love.
d. He had continued to love them without reservation to the end.
