A Deeper Understanding
Text: John 12: 44-45
A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING
Jesus wanted His followers to have a deeper understanding of what it really means to believe in Him. Having faith is more than just following Jesus around.
“Then Jesus cried out and said, ‘He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. And He who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.’”
John 12:44-45
1. “Then Jesus cried out and said”
a. To all who were not afraid to follow Him.
b. To all who were not intimidated to confess their faith in Him.
2. “He who believes in Me”
a. He acknowledged all who had believed in Him.
b. They should seek to understand what this means at a deeper level.
3. “Believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me”
a. The meaning of what Jesus meant must be understood carefully.
b. “Believes not in Me”
i. This needs a bit of explanation.
ii. Jesus was not discounting belief in Him.
iii. He was teaching His followers that there was MORE.
c. “Believes…in Him who sent Me”
i. Believing in Jesus is also believing in God the Father.
ii. Faith in Jesus ultimately leads to faith in the Father.
d. There will come understanding that the Father had indeed sent Jesus into the world.
4. “And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me”
a. No one has seen God the Father at any time.
b. But Jesus had come to show us what the Father is like.
c. To see Jesus is the same as seeing God the Father.
d. Jesus is the perfect image of who God is.
e. What a privilege and blessing to have faith in Jesus.
f. We may now say that we have “seen God” through eyes of enlightened faith.

耶稣希望跟随祂的人能够更深一层的理解信靠祂的意义。拥有信心不仅仅是跟随衪。
