An Amazing Insight
Text: John 11: 4
AN AMAZING INSIGHT
Insight is a special ability that may be developed and it is an invaluable asset to ministry. The insight that Jesus shared with His disciples was truly amazing.
“When Jesus heard that, He said, ‘This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.’”
John 11:4
1. “When Jesus heard that, He said”
a. He received word that Lazarus was sick.
i. The sisters had expected Him to come to them without delay.
ii. They felt that Jesus who loved Lazarus would not hesitate to drop everything
and come and heal him.
b. His reply was not usual.
i. The sisters would not have understood.
ii. Nor would His disciples have understood why He would not respond immediately.
2. “This sickness is not unto death”
a. This was Jesus’ perception.
i. Lazarus may have been sick.
ii. But death would not prevail.
b. But would He know? He was far away from Bethany at that time.
3. “But for the glory of God”
a. A sickness that would lead towards the glory of God?
b. This was a startling statement!
c. What did Jesus mean?
4. “That the Son of God may be glorified through it”
a. The idea of “glory”.
b. It carries with it:
i. Honour
ii. High praise
c. The Son of God was a reference to Himself.
d. Somehow, Jesus would be glorified through this episode of Lazarus being sick.
