Text: Luke 3:10-14

SPECIFIC GROUPS OF PEOPLE

1. The general group

a. Question

“What shall we do then?” (Luke 3:10)

b. Answer (Luke 3:11-12)

i. Those who have two tunics (clothes) give one to a person who is poor (no warm clothing).

ii. Those who have food give to those in need.

c. Meaning:

i. Real faith must see us care for others in need.

ii. True religion affects the way we care for others.

2. The Tax-collectors

a. Question

“Teacher, what shall we do?” (Luke 3:12a)

b. Answer (Luke 3:13b)

i. Collect the appropriate taxes.

ii. Do not cheat/ add taxes.

c. Meaning:

i. A genuine faith has moral implications.

ii. There must be no abuse of authority.

3. The Soldiers

a. Question

“And what shall we do?” (Luke 3:14a)

b. Answer (Luke 3:14b)

i. Do not intimidate anyone.

ii. Do not accuse falsely.

iii. Be content with your wages (They were not paid very well).

c. Meaning:

i. Many soldiers abused their positions.

ii. They added to their income by doing wrong things.

iii. True faith will not result in wrong-doing.

ii. 真正的宗教会影响我们怎样关心他人的方式

2. 税吏

a. 问题

“夫子，我们当做什么呢？” 《路加福音 3：12a》

b. 答复 《路加福音 3：13b》

i. 征收适当的税款

ii. 不要欺骗/加税

c. 含义：

i. 真正的信实具有道德含义

ii. 不得滥用职权

3. 士兵

a. 问题

“我们当做什么呢？” 《路加福音 3：14a》

b. 答案《路加福音 3：14b》

i. 不要以强暴待人

ii. 也不要讹诈人

iii. 自己有钱粮就当知足（他们的工资不是很高）

c. 含义：

i. 许多士兵滥用职权

ii. 他们做错事来增加自己的工价

iii. 真正的信实不应导致错误的行为
