Text: Luke 23: 50-53

AN EXCEPTION TO THE RULE

1. People who were crucified were usually left on their crosses for days.

a. As an object lesson.
b. To teach criminals to fear the might of Rome.

2. An exception was made on this occasion.

a. This was the holy Passover.
b. The Jews did not like to have crucified people hanged on their crosses.

THE BURIAL OF THE LORD JESUS

“Now behold, there was a man named Joseph, a council member, a good and just man. He had not consented to their decision and deed. He was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who himself was also waiting for the kingdom of God. This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever lain before.”

Luke 23:50-53

1. Joseph of Arimathea was a Council Member.

2. But he had not consented to what the Council decided on.

3. He had a personal faith in God and His kingdom.

4. He decided that he would use his position and influence to speak to the Roman Governor.

5. Having obtained the Governor’s permission:

a. He took down the body of the Lord Jesus.
b. He wrapped it in linen.
c. He laid the body of the Lord Jesus in a tomb.
i. This tomb was hewn out of a rock.
ii. No one had ever used it before.
iii. It is likely, that he had prepared a tomb for himself.

6. The fulfilment of another prophecy.

“And they made His grave with the wicked— But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth.”

Isaiah 53:9

a. His enemies wanted to make Him go to the grave with the wicked.
b. But this did not happen.
i. His grave was the tomb of a rich man.
ii. The Lord Jesus had done no violence.
iii. There was no deceit in His mouth.
iv. In His death, He would be honoured by Joseph of Arimathea.

1. 犹太亚利马太的约瑟,是个议士

2. 但他不同意公会的决定

3. 他相信上帝和祂的国度

4. 他决定利用自己的职位和影响力与罗马巡抚彼拉多谈论

5. 他获得许可:

a. 取下了主耶稣的身体

b. 他用细麻布裹好

c. 安放在石头凿成的坟墓里

i. 坟墓是用石头凿出来的

ii. 以前没有人使用过它

iii. 很可能,这是他为自己准备的坟墓

6. 另一个预言的应验

“他虽然未行强暴,口中也没有诡诈,人还使他与恶人同埋,谁知死的时候与财主同葬。”

《以赛亚书 53:9》

a.祂的敌人要祂和恶人同埋

i. 祂的坟墓是一个财主的坟墓
