My Song In The Night (Gospel of Luke)
我夜间的歌曲《路加福音》
Text: Luke 10: 10-12
SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS V
“But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, ‘The very dust of your city which clings to us we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near you.’ But I say to you that it will be more tolerable in that Day for Sodom than for that city.”
Luke 10:10-12
1. The cities that reject
a. These show hostility.
b. They will not receive the Disciples of the Lord.
2. Declaration of the Disciples
a. Symbolic dust:
i. Inevitably, dust would be picked up by the sandals worn by the disciples.
ii. The dust may be “wiped off” against the hostile city.
iii. The Disciples will not be held responsible when the cities are judged by God one day.
b. The Kingdom of God had come near to them.
i. But the Kingdom had been rejected.
ii. Thus, the people had no one to blame but themselves if they do not make it into the Kingdom of God.
3. The fate of Sodom
a. The story of the destruction of Sodom is found in Genesis 19.
b. God has sent 2 angels to visit the city and to see if they could find 10 righteous people.
c. The city would then be spared from destruction.
d. The city of Sodom was destroyed because of its wickedness.
4. The fate of the hostile cities
a. These would also be judged.
b. They would suffer a worse fate because they had rejected the Kingdom of God offered to them.
