Text: Genesis 43: 32-34
MEDITATION
Genesis 43:32-34
32 So they set him a place by himself, and them by themselves, and the Egyptians who ate with him by themselves; because the Egyptians could not eat food with the Hebrews, for that is an abomination to the Egyptians.
33 And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birth right and the youngest according to his youth; and the men looked in astonishment at one another.
34 Then he took servings to them from before him, but Benjamin’s serving was five times as much as any of theirs. So they drank and were merry with him.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Table seating
a. Joseph sat by himself, as the governor of the land of Egypt.
b. The brothers had a table of their own
c. Invited Egyptian guests also ate on their own.
They would not eat with the Hebrews; they were unfortunately much despised.
2. Astonishing seating arrangement
a. Every brother was seated according to his birthright.
b. From Reuben, the eldest brother to Benjamin the youngest in the family.
c. This arrangement astounded the brothers.
d. How could the governor of the land of Egypt know them so well?
3. Serving the brothers
a. He took servings to them.
i. This does not mean Joseph personally served the brothers.
ii. His servants would represent Joseph.
They served his brothers.
b. Benjamin’s serving:
i. He had the largest portion of all.
ii. This was an expression of love and favour shown to Benjamin.
By and large, the lunch with the governor went rather well.

32他们就为约瑟单摆了一席,为那些人又摆了一席,也为和约瑟同吃饭的埃及人另摆了一席,因为埃及人不可和希伯来人一同吃饭,那原是埃及人所厌恶的。
33约瑟使众弟兄在他面前排列坐席,都按着长幼的次序,众弟兄就彼此诧异。34约瑟把他面前的食物分出来,送给他们,但便雅悯所得的比别人多五倍。他们就饮酒,和约瑟一同宴乐。
