Text: Genesis 35: 11-15
MEDITATION
Genesis 35:11-15
11 Also God said to him: “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body.
12 The land which I gave Abraham and Isaac I give to you; and to your descendants after you I give this land.”
13 Then God went up from him in the place where He talked with him.
14 So Jacob set up a pillar in the place where He talked with him, a pillar of stone; and he poured a drink offering on it, and he poured oil on it.
15 And Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him, Bethel.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Remembering the past
a. This was good and wise.
b. Jacob must have had time to review the past with his family.
2. The importance of faith in God and not idols
a. The revelation of the LORD as “God Almighty”.
b. The blessing God articulated:
i. To be fruitful and multiply.
ii. The land of Canaan was first given to Abraham, then Isaac and now Jacob.
iii. It would be the inheritance that his descendants would have.
3. Remembering this special divine visit from God
a. A pillar of stone was set up.
b. Oil was poured on the stone to anoint the stone and to sanctify it.
c. A drink offering was poured on the stone as an act of worship.
4. Bethel
a. Jacob called this place “Bethel” (“the house of God”),
b. This was done in remembrance of how God spoke to him.

11神又对他说：“我是全能的神。你要生养众多，将来有一族和多国的民从你而生，又有君王从你而出。
12我所赐给亚伯拉罕和以撒的地，我要赐给你与你的后裔。”
13神就从那与雅各说话的地方升上去了。
14雅各便在那里立了一根石柱，在柱子上奠酒，浇油。15雅各就给那地方起名叫伯特利。
