Text: Genesis 33: 15-17
MEDITATION
Genesis 33:15-17
15 And Esau said, “Now let me leave with you some of the people who are with me.” But he said, “What need is there? Let me find favour in the sight of my lord.”
16 So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir.
17 And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, built himself a house, and made booths for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Esau’s offer to have some of his servants accompany Jacob
a. Esau continues to show concern.
b. There was always the danger of being attacked by robbers.
2. Jacob’s response
a. He declined this kind offer.
b. He felt that there was no need.
c. “Let me find favour in the sight of my lord.”
i. He spoke humbly.
ii. He asked that his explanation be accepted.
iii. This would indicate that he has found favour with Esau.
3. Esau’s departure
a. He returned to his own land.
b. It was at Mount Seir (It would become known as Edom).
4. Jacob’s journey
a. He was going to Canaan.
b. Along the way he made a house (tent).
c. He also made booths (shelters) for the animals.
d. The place was called Succoth (meaning, “booths”).
Jacob was wise in traveling at his own pace. Thus, he avoided possible tension with Esau.
