Text: Genesis 32: 6-8
MEDITATION
Genesis 32:6-8
6 Then the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, “We came to your brother Esau, and he also is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him.”
7 So Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed; and he divided the people that were with him, and the flocks and herds and camels, into two companies.
8 And he said, “If Esau comes to the one company and attacks it, then the other company which is left will escape.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The report of Jacob’s servants
a. They had met with Esau.
b. Esau would come and meet Jacob.
c. He was bringing 400 men with him.
2. Great fear felt by Jacob
a. He was greatly afraid when he heard the news.
b. He was deeply distressed for he feared the worst.
c. His fears gripped his heart and mind.
3. Plans made
a. He divided his family into different groups.
b. The flocks, herds and camels were also divided into two groups.
c. This was his contingency plans.
d. He knew that he could not defeat Esau if there was a battle between them.
4. Reasoning of Jacob
a. He feared that Esau had come to take revenge.
b. In the event that Esau attacked:
i. One company may suffer loss and possible death.
ii. The other company could escape.
