MEDITATION
Genesis 30:25-26
25 And it came to pass, when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said to Laban, “Send me away, that I may go to my own place and to my country.
26 Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you, and let me go; for you know my service which I have done for you.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Jacob’s growing family
a. Leah had 6 sons and one daughter (Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Dinah and Zebulun).
b. Bilhah (Rachel’s maid) had 2 sons (Dan and Naphthali).
c. Zilpah (Leah’s maid) had 2 sons (Gad and Zebulun).
d. Rachel had 1 son. Her son was called Joseph.
In total, Jacob had 11 offspring.
2. Jacob’s desire to return to Canaan
a. Jacob was technically an employee of Laban.
b. He had served his father-in-law for fourteen years and counting.
3. How Jacob viewed Canaan
a. “My own place”
b. “My country”
c. He did not see Laban’s country in the same way.
4. Jacob’s formal request to Laban
a. He would bring with him all his wives.
b. He would also bring with him all his children.
c. He had served Laban faithfully for many years. This request was not unreasonable.
