MEDITATION
Genesis 27:46
46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, like these who are the daughters of the land, what good will my life be to me?”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Seeking Isaac’s permission
a. Rebekah may plan.
b. But she would need Isaac’s consent.
c. Without his permission, her plans would come to nothing!
2. Avoiding the mentioning of the anger of Esau
a. Rebekah knew that she could not complain against Esau’s murderous plan.
b. Isaac would not believe her.
c. He loved Esau too much to see any evil in him.
d. Isaac was probably not fully aware of how angry Esau felt against Jacob.
3. Coming up with a new angle of thought
a. She touched on a subject that he knew Isaac would agree on.
b. That subject: The Hittite daughters-in-law.
i. Isaac and Rebekah showed disapproval of Esau’s choice in marriage.
ii. They did not share the same faith.
iii. Esau’s marriage certainly did nothing for his spiritual life.
c. If Jacob were to take a wife from among the Hittites, Rebekah would feel that her life would have lost all meaning!
d. This appeal would gain support and approval from Isaac.
e. Rebekah was desperate to save Jacob from being slain by Esau.
