Text: Genesis 27: 35-36
MEDITATION
Genesis 27:35-36
35 But he said, “Your brother came with deceit and has taken away your blessing.”
36 And Esau said, “Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright, and now look, he has taken away my blessing!” And he said, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Realization that came too late
a. Jacob had come with deceit. Isaac had been deceived!
b. He had taken away the first-born blessing.
2. Esau’s response
a. Jacob
i. He was frustrated.
ii. He was in great anger.
iii. Jacob’s name was rightly chosen. He was a supplanter!
b. He had supplanted Esau on two occasions:
i. His birthright.
ii. His firstborn blessing.
3. Pleading with Isaac
a. Was there only one blessing to give?
b. Wasn’t there another blessing Isaac could give?
4. Esau’s problem
He had not understood that he had despised his birthright in the first place! He had shown little or no spiritual understanding of what the first-born blessing really meant.
