MEDITATION
Genesis 27:5-7
5 Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt game and to bring it.
6 So Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, “Indeed I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying,
7 ‘Bring me game and make savoury food for me, that I may eat it and bless you in the presence of the LORD before my death.’
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Rebekah
a. She was listening intently to what Isaac said to Esau.
b. She had hidden herself well so that her presence was not detected.
c. She was obviously troubled.
i. Esau was the intended beneficiary of this prayer.
ii. Jacob was not even mentioned at all.
2. Rebekah’s word to Jacob
a. She spoke to Jacob with deep concern.
b. She recalled what she had heard.
i. Isaac intended to bless Esau before the LORD.
ii. The significance was not lost on her.
3. Isaac’s family had become dysfunctional
a. The hearts of Isaac and Rebekah were divided.
i. Isaac loved Esau.
ii. Rebekah loved Jacob.
b. The twin brothers
i. They were not close at all.
ii. Jacob had “stolen” the birthright of the firstborn (Genesis 25:29-34).
iii. Esau, on the other hand, had despised his birthright (Genesis 25:34).
