MEDITATION

Genesis 24:57-59

57 So they said, “We will call the young woman and ask her personally.”
58 Then they called Rebekah and said to her, “Will you go with this man?” And she said, “I will go.”
59 So they sent away Rebekah their sister and her nurse, and Abraham’s servant and his men.

MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE

1. The final say was given to Rebekah

a. This was not the usual practice.
b. The parents normally have the final word.
c. In this instance, Rebekah was given the privilege of giving her answer.

2. The question posed to Rebekah

a. Would she go with the chief steward to get married to Isaac?
b. It was not an easy decision to make:
i. She would leave immediately as requested by the chief steward.
ii. She would undertake the long journey with the chief steward and his men.
iii. She would marry Isaac whom she had never seen before.

3. Rebekah’s reply

a. It was a positive one.
b. She would marry Isaac. This would have required faith on her part.
c. She might have been helped greatly by the testimony of the chief steward.
d. She too must believe that the LORD was leading each step of the way!
The family accepted her decision and sent Rebekah away accompanied by her nurse.

iii.
