Text: Genesis 21: 8-11
MEDITATION
Genesis 21:8-11
8 So the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the same day that Isaac was weaned.
9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, scoffing.
10 Therefore she said to Abraham, “Cast out this bondwoman and her son; for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, namely with Isaac.”
11 And the matter was very displeasing in Abraham’s sight because of his son.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. A weaning feast
a. This was a special occasion: “A feast to celebrate successful weaning of a child”.
b. Isaac may be one or two years old.
2. At the feast
a. Ishmael, the older brother mocked the little boy, Isaac.
b. Sarah noted that and she became very angry.
3. Sarah’s demand
a. She demanded that Hagar and her son, Ishmael be cast out.
b. She determined that Ishmael would not share in the inheritance that Abraham would leave behind.
4. Abraham’s displeasure
a. He was upset at this turn of events.
b. He loved Ishmael for he was his son too.
c. He was uncertain as to how he should respond.
d. To give heed to Sarah would mean that Hagar and Ishmael would suffer.
e. To resist Sarah would mean even greater conflict in the family.

9当时,撒拉看见埃及人夏甲给亚伯拉罕所生的儿子戏笑,
10就对亚伯拉罕说:“你把这使女和她儿子赶出去,因为这使女的儿子不可与我的儿子以撒一同承受产业。”11亚伯拉罕因他儿子的缘故很忧愁。
