MEDITATION
Genesis 20:1-2
1 And Abraham journeyed from there to the South, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur, and stayed in Gerar.
2 Now Abraham said of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Journeys of Abraham
a. He did not stay in one place for very long.
b. One reason was that he owned much cattle and sheep.
c. He would always be in need to find good pastures for his cattle and flocks.
2. Going South
a. Two regions were noted: Kadesh and Shur.
b. Gerar was the region where he met with trouble.
3. Hostile kings
a. There were many hostile kings in those days.
b. These ruled by sheer might.
c. They took what they wanted and few could resist them.
d. Sarah was captured by Abimelech king of Gerar.
4. Abraham’s weakness
a. There were times when he showed courage.
b. There were other moments when he was fearful.
c. Once again, he spoke of Sarah as his sister.
5. King Abimelech
a. He seized Sarah.
b. He added her to his harem.
