Text: Genesis 2: 1-3; Exodus 20: 11
MEDITATION
Genesis 2:1-3
1 Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished.
2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.
3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
Exodus 20:11
11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Creation
a. Genesis 2 is a reflection of God’s work of creation.
b. The work of creating the universe as we know it was completed!
2. Understanding of the Jewish concept of “Days”
a. It begins with the evening.
b. It ends with the morning (Genesis 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31).
3. Understanding the idea of the Seventh Day
a. The Scriptures were written for Israel originally.
b. The Seventh Day was therefore Saturday.
c. God ceased from His work of creation.
d. The meaning behind the word “ceased” is “Sabbath”.
e. To cease from normal work is called “Sabbath” meaning “rest”.
4. Blessing and sanctifying the Sabbath
a. God’s blessing was given to the Sabbath.
b. This blessing will extend to all who honour and keep the Sabbath.
c. The Fourth Commandment was given to Israel to set aside the Sabbath for rest and for worship.
5. Our keeping of the Sabbath
We keep Sunday as our Sabbath. This was the way the New Testament Church kept their Day of rest (The Apostle John called it “The Lord’s Day” in Revelation 1:10). This commemorates the day of Christ’s resurrection!

11因为六日之内，耶和华造天、地、海和其中的万物，第七日便安息，所以耶和华赐福于安息日，定为圣日。
