MEDITATION
Exodus 34:11-12
11 Observe what I command you this day. Behold, I am driving out from before you the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.
12 Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be a snare in your midst
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. A command from God
a. Israel must listen to this word.
i. It is not advice.
ii. It is a command.
b. The meaning of the word “observe”.
i. To take careful note.
ii. To obey.
2. God’s Promise to Israel that He would personally deal with powerful enemies
a. These were inhabitants in the land.
b. They were named.
c. The Amorite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.
3. No covenant was to be established with them
a. The word “covenant”:
i. An agreement
ii. A treaty
iii. An alliance
b. The danger highlighted
i. A covenant with these enemies would ensnare the children of Israel.
ii. These were idolatrous nations.
iii. They would not learn the ways and the faith of Israel.
iv. They would cause Israel to become idolatrous instead
