Text: Exodus 22: 7-8
MEDITATION
Exodus 22:7-8
7 “If a man delivers to his neighbour money or articles to keep, and it is stolen out of the man’s house, if the thief is found, he shall pay double.
8 If the thief is not found, then the master of the house shall be brought to the judges to see whether he has put his hand into his neighbour’s goods.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Safekeeping
a. There were no banks in the ancient days.
b. If one has to travel, the normal thing was to entrust money and/or valuables to a friend.
2. Theft
a. Goods may be stolen.
b. If the thief is found he would have to “pay double”.
3. If the thief is not found
a. The friend, that is, the master of the house may be brought to the judges.
b. There must be reasons for this course of action to take place.
4. The “friend” may turn out to be
a. A false friend
b. A covetous person
c. An unfaithful person
5. The judges
a. They would have to determine if the “friend” had in fact stolen the goods entrusted to him.
b. This would be a challenging task.
