"I brought you up from the land of Egypt"

Text: Micah 6:4

A GREAT HISTORIC EVENT

Every nation has its own special and historic event that is meant to be remembered and celebrated forever. Israel had one of the most remarkable historic events ever.

“For I brought you up from the land of Egypt,
I redeemed you from the house of bondage;
And I sent before you Moses, Aaron and Miriam.”
Micah 6:4

1. “I brought you up from the land of Egypt”

a) Egypt was the most powerful nation then.
b) It had a mighty army.
c) It was famous even then for its pyramids.
d) The Pharaoh was worshiped as if he was a god.
e) Israel was then enslaved by Egypt (Exodus 1-2).
f) But God, with a mighty hand, brought Israel out of Egypt (Exodus 3-14).

2. “I redeemed you from the house of bondage”

a) Israel was truly in bondage to Egypt.
b) The only way out was for God to do the following:
i) Defeat the Pharaoh and his mighty army.
ii) Destroy its power by unleashing ten mighty plagues on the land.
iii) Deliver Israel out of the house of bondage (Exodus 1-14).
c) The story of God’s redemption should not have been forgotten.

3. “And I sent before you”

a) Moses
i) The mighty leader
ii) The astute law-giver
iii) The persevering intercessor
b) Aaron
i) He was the first high priest.
ii) He led the priests and the Levites to offer worship and intercessory prayers.
c) Miriam

She was a prophetess. She did her part in leading the women-folk in worship and in service to the Lord.
