"Hear, O you mountains, the LORD'S complaint"

Text: Micah 6:2

THE LORD’S TURN

It was the Lord’s turn to speak. He would not be silent to lay up charges against His people.

“Hear, O you mountains, the LORD’S complaint,
And you strong foundations of the earth;
For the LORD has a complaint against His people,
And He will contend with Israel.”
Micah 6:2

1. “Hear, O you mountains… and you strong foundations of the earth”

a) The Lord now calls on three witnesses.
b) They are:
i) The mountains
ii) The hills
iii) The foundations of the earth
c) In the mouth of two or three witnesses, truth would be established.

d) These three witnesses would bear testimony of the veracity of the Lord’s word.

2. “The LORD’S complaint”

a) This word is put forward as a legal complaint.
b) The word “complaint” is not:
i) Grumbling
ii) Grousing
c) The word “complaint” is:
i) A legal charge.
ii) A legal case that would be made plain for all to examine and to debate.

3. “The LORD has a complaint against His people”

a) The case would revolve around the concept: “His people”.
b) The children of Israel became His people by virtue of a Covenant.
c) And in any Covenant, there were obligations that must be fulfilled by both parties.

4. “And He will contend with Israel”

a) The Covenant God spoke of was recorded in Exodus 19-20. This was ratified in Exodus 24.
b) The people had declared “All that the LORD has said we will do, and be obedient.” (Exodus 24:7)
