Day 58

"Your hand shall be lifted against your adversaries"

Text: Micah 5:9

FACING ADVERSARIES IN THE PAST

Israel had faced many adversaries in the past. It experienced various results.

1. Defeat

This was experienced many times. Adversaries subjected Israel to much humiliation.

2. Deliverance

God had to step in on many occasions to deliver Israel out of its predicaments.

3. Lessons not learned

Sadly, Israel had not learned the many lessons God intended His people to learn.

a) Depended on human allies.

b) Deceived by false teachers.

c) Distracted by following idolatrous practices.

FACING ADVERSARIES IN THE FUTURE

Micah prophesied a future where the future remnant Israel would face future adversaries in a different manner.

“Your hand shall be lifted against your adversaries,
And all your enemies shall be cut off.”
Micah 5:9

1. “Your hand”

a) This has to be read carefully in the context of “the remnant” (Micah 5:7-8).
b) It is the hand of “the young lion”.

2. “Shall be lifted against your adversaries”

a) The future Israel will not cower in fear of powerful adversaries.
b) It will not depend on idols to help them overcome their enemies.
c) It will not depend on unwise and unholy alliances for assistance.
d) The future remnant Israel will raise its hand against adversaries
i) In faith.
ii) With courage.
iii) With confidence in the Lord.

3. “And all your enemies shall be cut off”

a) David was a young lad who defeated the mighty giant Goliath.
b) Israel, by the grace of God would become a new nation given divine strength and power.
c) The remnant future Israel, in its new-found faith in God would cut off all enemies.

This was a powerful hope that Micah wrote about with faith.
