Day 36

"Who build up Zion with bloodshed"

Text: Micah 3:10

JERUSALEM THE CAPITAL

Jerusalem was the capital that David chose to develop (2 Samuel 5:1-9). But Judah since the days of Rehoboam (grandson of King David), the Southern Kingdom had known little peace.

There were constant wars waged against the traditional enemies:

1. Israel

2. Philistia

3. Ammon

4. Moab

5. Edom

6. Syria

THE CONSTANT REBUILDING OF JERUSALEM

War had devastating consequences. Poverty, diseases, political upheavals, economic distress and more! The leaders knew that they had to build and rebuild the capital. How they attempted this was appalling to Micah the prophet!

“Who build up Zion with bloodshed
And Jerusalem with iniquity:”
Micah 3:10

1. “Who build up Zion with bloodshed”

a) Zion was the spiritual name for Jerusalem.
b) It was a symbolic name:
i) For righteousness.
ii) For holiness.
iii) For worship.
iv) This was meant to be city of the LORD God.
v) It was there that the temple of the Lord was built.
c) But Zion became well-known for other reasons:
i) It was famed for bloodshed.
ii) People worshipped deities that seemed to delight in killing children.

2. “And Jerusalem with iniquity”

a) Jerusalem is the other name of Zion (Like Jacob and Israel).
b) Iniquity should not be prevalent there.
c) Instead Jerusalem was built with all kinds of iniquitous deeds.
