Day 27

"I will surely assemble all of you, O Jacob"

Text: Micah 2:12

PROPHETIC PROMISES

The false prophets proclaimed “Peace” when war was inevitably drawing nearer. Those who were naive or blind chose to believe the lies of the prophets with a false spirit. They resisted the message of the true prophets as if they were “prophets of doom”. This was an inaccurate understanding of the prophetic word preached. True prophets like Micah held out hope for the future, proclaiming prophetic promises.

“I will surely assemble all of you, O Jacob,
I will surely gather the remnant of Israel;
I will put them together like sheep of the fold,
Like a flock in the midst of their pasture;
They shall make a loud noise because of so many people.”
Micah 2:12

1. Micah did preach that God would judge Israel (Micah 2:1-4).

a) He did pronounce a solemn “woe” against the iniquitous (Micah 2:1).
b) He did proclaim that God was “devising disaster” against Israel (Micah 2:3).
c) But he did not stop there as if declaring the total destruction of Israel.

2. Micah revealed a wonderful promise from the LORD God Himself.

a) “I will surely assemble all of you, O Jacob”
i) Israel will be scattered far and wide by its conquerors.
ii) But God will surely assemble all who have been scattered to the far-flung corners of the earth.
b) “I will surely gather the remnant of Israel”
i) God promised that He would gather people back to their homeland, Israel.
ii) The focus would be “the remnant of Israel”.
c) But their numbers are not so small and insignificant.
i) They shall make a loud noise because of so many people.
ii) The remnant would number by the tens of thousands (Ezra 2:64).

3. The LORD will be a good and faithful shepherd to Israel.

a) The language employed here describes the hard and diligent work of a good shepherd.
b) “I will put them together like sheep of the fold”
i) The image of sheep of a fold.
ii) God will search for the remnant far and wide.
iii) The remnant will be like His flock of sheep. He will look after them as a wonderfully responsible Shepherd.
c) “Like a flock in the midst of their pasture”

The faithful Shepherd would ensure the safety of the sheep grazing in their pasture.
