"Arise and depart"

Text: Micah 2:10

AN URGENT ADMONITION

There was still redemptive hope if the wicked would turn away from their cruel deeds!

“Arise and depart,
For this is not your rest;
Because it is defiled, it shall destroy,
Yes, with utter destruction.”
Micah 2:10

1. “Arise and depart”

a) This was an urgent call to arise and depart from sinful ways.
b) There must be recognition of the horrendous sinfulness of robbing people (men, women and of hurting children).
c) There must be immediate cessation from sin and a departure from wicked and cruel deeds.

2. “For this is not your rest”

a) God had promised the land of Canaan to the children of Israel.
b) The Promised Land would be “their rest”.
c) But cruel activities would not result in “rest!”
d) This was a clear abuse of the gift of God of the Promised Land.

3. “Because it is defiled”

a) Robbery defiles the land as does idolatry.
b) Cruel treatment of women-folk certainly defiles the land.
c) When children’s faith in the Lord and His glory is hurt severely, the land is defiled indeed!

4. “It shall destroy”

a) Sin is not just an evil deed or two.
b) Sin is like a wicked master who would destroy the sinners themselves.
c) Sin would destroy the land of Israel and its people devastatingly.

5. “Yes, with utter destruction”

a) The oppressive people may think they are getting away though they rob the poor and the weak.
b) This line of thought is simply foolish.
c) The land of Israel will suffer “utter destruction”.
i) The Lord would arise and judge the wicked.
ii) It would result in the utter destruction of the nation.
iii) The cost of wickedness is always too high a price to pay!
