THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS

What had Jesus taught all this while? Let us take time to make a short list of His teachings. Five things may be highlighted:-

1. The Doctrine of the Kingdom of God Mark 1:14-15; 4:1-32

2. The Doctrine of Ministry to sinful people Mark 2:14-17

3. The Doctrine of Fasting Mark 2:18-22

4. The Doctrine of the Sabbath Mark 2:23-28

5. The Doctrine of the Scriptures versus Traditions Mark 7:1-23

6. The Doctrine of Faith (through life’s experiences) Mark 4:35-41

A NEW SET OF TEACHINGS

Jesus began to teach His Disciples a new set of doctrines, hitherto unknown to them.

“And He began to teach them that the Son of Man
must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders
and chief priests and scribes, and be killed,
and after three days rise again.”
MARK 8:31

1. The Doctrine of suffering

The suffering of the Messiah was actually prophesied extensively by Isaiah (Cf. Isaiah 52-53).

2. Application and highlighting of this Doctrine

Jesus applied the prophecy of Isaiah to His personal life. How did Jesus feel as He spoke about His suffering?

a) With Acceptance of suffering
There was a wonderful sense of acceptance of this doctrine of personal suffering.
b) With great calmness
Jesus spoke of His suffering in some detail:-
i) He would suffer many things.
ii)He would be rejected by the religious leaders.
iii)He would be killed.
iv)He would rise from the dead on the third day.
