“Yes, all of you be submissive to one another…” 1 Peter 5:5b

A DEFINITE PLAN

If we are not careful in our reading of the ministry of Jesus, as recorded in the Gospels, we might end up thinking that He ministered in random fashion. This conclusion would be incorrect. Mark noted that Jesus had a definite plan.

“Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching.”
MARK 6:6b

A TEACHING CIRCUIT

We may not be able to determine exactly the circuit established, but we do know that the focus is that of “teaching”.

1. A Teaching Ministry

a) Healing did not automatically bring about faith in God.
b) Teaching would be necessary to help the multitudes come to faith.
i) Doubts must be cleared.
ii) Questions must be answered.
iii) If necessary, public debate must be entered into (e.g. with the Pharisees).

2. Areas covered in the circuit

We may highlight the following regions Jesus traveled to minister:-

a) Galilean Ministry
i) Cana
He performed His first miracle here (Cf. John 2).
ii) Capernaum
This city virtually became His “second home town”, if for no other reason then that the Gospels record the many events that occurred in this city (Cf. Mark 2-3).
iii) Nazareth
Sadly, Nazareth scorned Jesus (Cf. Mark 6)
b) Judean Ministry
i) Jerusalem
ii) Bethany
c) Samarian Ministry
On one occasion, Jesus ministered there for a few days, after having led a Samaritan woman to salvation (Cf. John 4).
