Day 341

Acts 5:9 "Then Peter said to her, 'How is it that you agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.'" Acts 5:9"

Day 341 – Mark 16

“Then Peter said to her, ‘How is it that you agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.'” Acts 5:9

NO LACK OF TEACHING

Jesus had sought to prepare His disciples for His death. His teachings on this subject was not dismal in the least! The following truths may be highlighted:-

1. All within the written will of God

This was something that Jesus stressed to His Disciples. His suffering and death were all prophesied and recorded in the Scriptures.

“And how is it written concerning the Son of Man,
that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?”
MARK 9:12

2. Repetition of this teaching

Jesus understood their difficulty. Thus He sought to repeat this teaching time and again, in the hope that what He had spoken would sink into their hearts.

“For He taught His disciples and said to them,
‘The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men.
and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise
the third day.'”
MARK 9:31

3. Seeing beyond death to His resurrection

Jesus sought to point His disciples to look beyond His death to His resurrection.

“He commanded them that they should tell no one
the things they had seen till the Son of Man
had risen from the dead.”
MARK 9:9

LACK OF COMPREHENSION

Sadly, the disciples of Jesus just could not fathom the words of their Teacher!

“So they kept this word to themselves,
questioning what the rising from the dead meant.”
MARK 9:10

“But they did not understand this saying,
and were afraid to ask Him.”
MARK 9:32

DEVOTION TO JESUS

The women followers also suffered from the same problem of a lack of comprehension and faith in this teaching of Jesus about His resurrection from the dead. They must be commended for their devotion, but their lack of comprehension that Jesus would rise from the dead was non-existent, as the following text shows.

“Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary
the mother of James, and Salome brought spices,
that they might come and anoint Him.”
MARK 16:1
