Day 231 – Mark 10

“Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” 2 Peter 3:13

GIVING UP EVERYTHING

The words of Jesus must have brought even further enlightenment to the Disciples. In this new light, Peter blurted out this statement.

“See, we have left all and followed You.”
MARK 10:28

It was a fact that the Disciples had left all to follow the Lord Jesus! Wherein did their giving up everything cause them to stand in the kingdom of God?

MOST ENCOURAGING WORDS

Jesus was right in addressing His Disciples as “children” (Mark 10:24). He did not rebuke Peter for drawing attention to what they sacrificed to follow Jesus. The Disciples had some ways to go before they reached full spiritual maturity. They were like “children” in their comprehension at this stage of their training. Kindly, Jesus spoke most encouragingly.

“Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house,
or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children
or lands, for My sake and the Gospel’s,
who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time-
houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children
and lands, with persecutions- and in the age to come, eternal life.
But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”
MARK 10:29-30

1. The sacrifices made

Jesus acknowledged that these may be regarded as “sacrifices”.

2. For the sake of Jesus and the Gospel

The motivation to make sacrifices must be out of faith in the Lord Jesus and love for the truth of the Gospel.

3. Reciprocal blessings and much more

a) A hundredfold in this present age
This reference is to this life on earth! God will blessed a hundredfold!
b) Eternal life- in the age to come
This is even more wonderful than the temporal, physical blessings.

4. A solemn word of warning

The first may well end up last. The challenge is to seek the Lord’s help to remain diligent in following after Jesus!
