“Looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God…” 2 Peter 3:12a

MANY VITAL LESSONS

There were many vital lessons Jesus wanted His Disciples to learn. He had already taught them vital lessons concerning the following subjects. The following may be highlighted:-

1. The Kingdom of God Mark 1:15

2. Following Him Mark 1:17

3. Sense of Mission/Purpose Mark 1:38

4. Courage and wisdom in dealing with the Scribes/Pharisees Mark 2:15-17; 3:22-30

5. The Word of God Mark 4

6. Ministering in Power Mark 5

7. Accepting suffering Mark 8

8. Faith Mark 9

9. Ministry to Children Mark 10

ANOTHER IMPORTANT LESSON TO ADD ON

Jesus wanted His disciples to learn yet another vital lesson, from this encounter with the rich young man.

“How hard it is for those who have riches
to enter into the kingdom of God!”
MARK 10:23

As the Disciples heard these words, they marveled. They were astonished that Jesus made this observation. They must have been puzzled indeed. Jesus went on to speak further on this subject.

“Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches
to enter the kingdom of God!
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle
than for a rich man to enter to the kingdom of God.”
MARK 10:24-25

In many peoples’ mind, wealth is a wonderful thing to have! However, Jesus wanted His Disciples to comprehend that material wealth can sometimes become a great hindrance to a person in search of eternal life. Very often, the wealthy forego eternal life, in favour of enjoying a wealthy lifestyle on earth.
