Day 225 – Mark 10

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night…” 2 Peter 3:10a

MEANING WELL MAY NOT BE ENOUGH

The Disciples must have meant well when they tried to prevent parents from bringing their children to the Lord Jesus for His blessing. But meaning well is just not enough. Their turning away parents would send out all kinds of wrong signals!

“But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased
and said to them, ‘Let the little children come to Me,
and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.'”
MARK 10:14

1. Greatly displeased

Jesus had every reason to be greatly displeased. Some reasons may be offered:-

a) The Disciples did not consult with the Lord Jesus before acting.
b) They were giving a wrong impression to the multitudes.
c) They were wrong in assuming that Jesus would not take time out for them!

2. Jesus and Children

a) They were never to be forbidden to come to the Lord Jesus!
b) Children In His kingdom
i) Children were welcome.
ii) They too can gain entrance into the kingdom of God.

ILLUSTRATION OF A CHILD ENTERING INTO THE KINGDOM OF GOD

Jesus must have surprised everyone, including His Disciples when He made the next statement.

“‘Assuredly I say to you, whoever does not receive
the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.’
And he took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them,
and blessed them.”
MARK 10:14-15

1. A child’s example of entering into the kingdom of God

They can believe in God’s kingdom. They are capable of possessing genuine faith in the Lord Jesus.

2. They are to be loved,

3. They are to be blessed.
