"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse"

Text: Malachi 3:10

A CHALLENGE TO DO THE RIGHT THING

Faced with the prospect of a curse from God, what could Israel do, but to obey?

“‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,’
Says the LORD of hosts,
‘If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it.'”
Malachi 3:10

1. “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house”

a) To give tithes and offerings
i) In obedience and honour to the LORD.
ii) In loving support of the Levites and the poor.
b) “Food in My house”
i) The servants of God must not starve.
ii) The poor in the land need not experience the hardship of poverty.

2. “‘And try Me now in this,’ Says the LORD of hosts”

a) Israel was challenged to “try” God out.
b) This is not the same as “putting God to the test”.
c) This is a challenge from God to obey Him and to see what He would do in response.

3. “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.”

a) God will open the windows of heaven.
b) He will give out a blessing so huge, there would be overflowing provision.
c) Could Israel believe this word of promise from the LORD?
