Day 14

"I am a great King"

Text: Malachi 1:14

FORGETTING WHO GOD REALLY IS

Israel seemed to have forgotten whom they were worshipping! The nation had virtually forgotten the LORD their God!

“‘But cursed be the deceiver
Who has in his flock a male,
And takes a vow,
But sacrifices to the Lord what is blemished—
For I am a great King,’
Says the LORD of hosts,
‘And My name is to be feared among the nations.'”
Malachi 1:14

1. “Cursed be the deceiver”

a) The worshippers presented offerings, in the hope of a blessing.
b) Instead of a blessing, the worshippers were given a curse instead.
c) The worshippers were deceitful! They deserve nothing more than a divine curse!

2. Vows made to God

a) Vows were allowed in those days.
b) A vow is a solemn oath made in God’s name.
c) The payment of a vow sometimes involved a male lamb.
d) But when the worshipper brings his offering to God:
i) It was the promised unblemished male lamb.
ii) Instead, it was a blemished animal.
iii) This was an insult to the Lord.

3. The Person of God must always be borne in mind clearly

a) He is a great King.
b) He is the mighty “LORD of hosts”.
c) His name is to be feared(revered) among the nations!
d) But Israel had done great injustice and sinned dreadfully in offering such worship!
