Jude
Day
Day 8

"And the angels who did not keep their proper domain..."

Text: Jude 6

CITING THE EXAMPLE OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL

Jude cited the example of the children of Israel for a number of reasons.

1. Not all the children of Israel possessed faith.

2. Not all who were delivered from Egypt had genuine faith.

3. Those who did not possess genuine faith were destroyed by the Lord in the wilderness journey.

CITING ANOTHER SIGNIFICANT EXAMPLE

Jude went to cite another example. The second example was of even greater significance.

“And the angels who did not keep their proper domain,
but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains
under darkness for the judgment of the great day.”

Jude 6

1. “And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode”

a) This profound truth was not mentioned in the Old Testament Scriptures.
b) Source of this knowledge
i) From the Lord Himself.
ii) Extra-Biblical source that is not extant today.
c) John also wrote in similar fashion when he described the rebellion of Satan and the fallen angels (Revelation 12).

2. “He has reserved in everlasting chains”

a) The Lord reserves the right to put them in chains.
b) Where they were incarcerated we do not know.
c) The Scriptures are silent on this matter.
d) Mercifully God had not allowed them to corrupt and contaminate the earth with their evil.
e) What they did wrong was not disclosed.
f) It is not wise to speculate.

3. “Under darkness”

a) Darkness is to be understood symbolically.
b) They will not be able to enjoy the light of God.

4. “For the judgment of the great day”

a) One day, God will bring them up for judgment.
b) It will be a great and solemn day of judgment against them.
