"A fountain shall flow from the house of the LORD"

Text: Joel 3:18

A GLORIOUS PICTURE OF NEW ZION

What a glorious picture of the new Zion that God would create in the future.

“And it will come to pass in that day
That the mountains shall drip with new wine,
The hills shall flow with milk,
And all the brooks of Judah shall be flooded with water;
A fountain shall flow from the house of the LORD
And water the Valley of Acacias.”
Joel 3:18

1. “And it will come to pass in that day”

a) This was a prophecy.
b) This prophetic word will come to pass in God’s plan.

2. “That the mountains shall drip with new wine”

a) The reference to new wine points to fruitful vineyards.
b) Mountains are not the usual location for vineyards.
c) But when God blesses, even the mountains would produce good vintage.

3. “The hills shall flow with milk”

a) The idea of “milk” would point to good pasture land for cattle.
b) Hills are not the usual location for pastures.
c) But when the LORD blesses, even the hills would flow with milk.

4. “And all the brooks of Judah shall be flooded with water”

a) Water was essential.
b) Brooks that run dry would affect all who depend on the brooks for the supply of water.
c) Brooks seldom have “floods”.
d) This is a picture of a brook that would always be filled with life-giving water.

5. “A fountain shall flow from the house of the LORD and water the Valley of Acacias”

a) Acacia wood was used to make the Ark of the covenant.
b) Water was needed to keep these trees alive and strong.
c) God would provide a special source of water to meet the needs of the acacia trees.
d) This special fountain would originate from “the house of the LORD”.

FULFILMENT

This was a prophecy that was meant to encourage the hearts of all who looked up to the Lord in faith. This prophecy would one day be fulfilled as the LORD had promised!
