Day 42

"Assemble and come, all you nations"

Text: Joel 3:11

A FUTURE BATTLE ENVISIONED

Joel foretells a battle in the prophetic future. There will be war and Israel would be involved.

“Assemble and come, all you nations,
And gather together all around.
Cause Your mighty ones to go down there, O LORD.
‘Let the nations be wakened, and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat;
For there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations.'”
Joel 3:11-12

1. The nations of the world

a) They will assemble themselves.
b) They will gather against Israel.

2. The Valley of Jehoshaphat

a) This is also known as “The Valley of Judgment”.
b) The scene seems horrendously lop-sided.
i) The nations gathered together would outnumber Israel drastically.
ii) The weapons of the enemies are not mentioned.
iii) But they are certainly not home-made weapons.
iv) Israel would be outclassed in every sense of the word!

3. What can Israel do?

a) Joel provides a good example.
b) He prayed to the Lord.
i) That God would send His mighty ones into battle.
ii) That the Lord would come to the aid of His people.
iii) That God would grant divine deliverance as He had done in the past.

4. God’s response

a) He declared that He would judge all the surrounding nations.
b) He would not idly sit by and do nothing.

5. God as the Judge

a) He would judge righteously.
b) He would uphold His people.
c) He would judge the wicked.
d) Israel need not be in fear, no matter the odds against the nation!
