"Tell your children about it"

Text: Joel 1:3

INFORMING THE NEXT GENERATION

This was emphasised in the Scriptures. The next generation must not be ignorant of the Lord’s word nor of His dealings with His people, whether positive or negative.

1. Deuteronomy 6:20-25

a) Children will ask questions naturally.
b) Answers must be given to them forthrightly.

2. Psalm 78

a) This is a historical Psalm.
b) The history of Israel was narrated in Hebrew poetical form.

LESSONS LEARNED FROM DISASTERS MUST NOT BE FORGOTTEN “Tell your children about it,
Let your children tell their children,
And their children another generation.”
Joel 1:3

1. “Tell your children about it”

a) There is no point hiding the facts.
b) Children have a right to be informed.
c) There are lessons that must be communicated effectively.

2. “Let your children tell their children”

a) This will only happen if the children had learned well.
b) Important lessons must be taught effectively.
c) The stories, though sad ones, must leave definite impressions on the children.

3. “And their children another generation”

a) History must be recorded.
b) It must also be remembered.
c) The future generation would benefit from lessons well-learned.

MEMORIALS AND LITERATURE

Israel had learned well from the recent past which has been horrendous.

1. Holocaust Memorials are specially erected lest the horrific past is forgotten.

2. Holocaust Literature written by victims keep vital memories intact.

3. Many lessons of suffering in the past can shed much-needed light for the future.
