"Prepare war against her"

Text: Jeremiah 6:4

SNIPPETS OF THE PLANS OF ENEMIES

The Lord gave to Jeremiah snippets of discussions that the enemies were having. The enemies held consultations of war against Judah.

“Prepare war against her;
Arise, and let us go up at noon.
Woe to us, for the day goes away,
For the shadows of the evening are lengthening.
Arise, and let us go by night,
And let us destroy her palaces.”
Jeremiah 6:4-5

1. “Prepare war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe to us, for the day goes away, for the shadows of the evening are lengthening.”

a) This was one suggestion put forward about war preparations.
i) The speaker was suggesting that the war campaign begin at noon.
ii) There was impatience displayed.
iii) Any delay would see the end of the day.
iv) The suggestion was to attack swiftly.
b) War consultation was normal procedure.
i) Different groups would present their arguments for the commencement of an attack.
ii) The different factions in the Babylonian army had not agreed with reference to details of the invasion.

2. “Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces.”

a) This was another suggestion put forward.
b) The attack could be launched at night.
c) The focus was to attack the palace and destroy it.

3. The Plans for Invasion

a) They were known to the Lord.
b) Jeremiah was given this revelation.
c) His part was to inform the rulers of the land.
d) They could at least come up with a solution to the problem of imminent attack.
