"If heaven above can be measured"

Text: Jeremiah 31:37

GREAT ASSURANCE FROM GOD II

“Thus says the LORD:
‘If heaven above can be measured,
And the foundations of the earth searched out beneath,
I will also cast off all the seed of Israel
For all that they have done, says the LORD.
‘Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD,
that the city shall be built for the LORD
from the Tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate.
The surveyor’s line shall again extend straight forward
over the hill Gareb;
then it shall turn toward Goath.
And the whole valley of the dead bodies and of the ashes,
and all the fields as far as the Brook Kidron,
to the corner of the Horse Gate toward the east,
shall be holy to the LORD.
It shall not be plucked up or thrown down anymore forever.””
Jeremiah 31:37-40

1. “Thus says the LORD: ‘If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, says the LORD'”

a) The measurement of heaven.
That is impossible!

b) Searching out the foundations of the earth.
That is impossible too!

c) It is also impossible to cast off all the seed of Israel.

d) The LORD is not unaware of all that Israel had done in the past.
But His plan for the future of Israel would not be adversely affected in any way!

2. The rebuilding of the city of Jerusalem is in mind here.

a) It will be a city that would be “built for the LORD”.

b) A surveyor’s line would be employed to measure the city.

i) There will be proper city planning done.

ii) Every part of the city will be carefully measured.

3. The Kidron Valley

a) This Valley is between The Temple Mount and the Mount of Olives.

b) Olives were grown widely here.

c) It was also famous as a burial ground.

d) Kidron Valley would be refreshed as “holy to the LORD”.
(Gareb and Goath are unknown names of geographical locations.)
