"We lie down in our shame"

Text: Jeremiah 3:25

A SENSE OF SHAME

A sense of shame was missing for the longest time in Israel and Judah. They were arrogant in the abundance of their wealth. But power and the name faded away as they suffered defeat in war. The economy was in shambles. There was nothing to be proud of! A new feeling of shame was needed! Jeremiah felt this keenly and sought to teach this.

“For shame has devoured
The labour of our fathers from our youth—
Their flocks and their herds,
Their sons and their daughters.
We lie down in our shame,
And our reproach covers us.
For we have sinned against the LORD our God,
We and our fathers,
From our youth even to this day,
And have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.”
